Eligibility and Application Process for Studying in Taiwan

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for a doctoral degree, obtaining a master's degree is a prerequisite. International students must have completed their higher secondary education or an equivalent diploma to pursue a bachelor's degree in Taiwan. For master's programs, a bachelor's degree certificate is required. The primary languages of instruction in Taiwan are Taiwanese Mandarin and Standard Mandarin. There are sufficient English-language courses available for international students at both the bachelor's and master's levels. Therefore, an IELTS score of 5.5 to 6.0 or a TOEFL iBT score of 71 to 80 is necessary for demonstrating English proficiency.

Admission Seasons

The admission seasons for Taiwanese universities are in September (Fall) and February (Spring), with September offering the most course options. Applications for admission are completed entirely online, with each institution having its own application platform. It's essential to visit the respective university websites for specific deadlines and admission requirements.

Documents Required for Visa Application

  • Completed visa application form with signature
  • Visa request letter mentioning the purpose of travel, type of study, and duration
  • Two recent passport-sized photos on a white background (3.4 x 4.5 cm)
  • Valid passport with at least six months of validity and two blank pages
  • Admission offer letter from a Taiwanese university
  • Photocopies of the last degree certificate and transcript (originals should be available for reference)
  • Guarantee letter
  • Health certificate issued within the last three months
  • Proof of financial stability (including income tax returns and bank statements for the last three months, sufficient for at least six months of living expenses)
  • Scholarship certificate (if applicable), specifying the amount and duration
  • Language proficiency certificate (if applicable)
  • Police criminal record certificate (if applicable)

These documents must be certified by the ROC (Republic of China) Foreign Mission.

Visa Application Submission

  • Visa documents must be submitted along with biometric registration.
  • The address of the Taiwanese Embassy: 34, Western Marg, Basant Bihar, New Delhi-110057, India.
  • Along with document submission, biometric registration will include taking the applicant's fingerprints and photo. The visa fees will be collected, and an Invoice-Cum-Receipt (ICR) will be issued. This receipt must be brought when collecting the passport with the visa.
